“The Case Of The Hi-Jacked Department Store” “The “Moonlight” Piano Sonata Murder Case” “The Tenkaichi Night Festival Murder Case” “The Company President’s Daughter Abduction Case” By far the worst cut is an entire epilogue sequence that has been removed from an episode in “season” five.īelow is a complete list of edits and cuts that plague these sets (the American dub episode numbering is used here, as those are the numbers used on these discs). All of the “Next Conan’s Hint” segments have been removed from “seasons” four and five as well (despite some of them having been previously released on FUNi’s individual volumes). On the fourth and fifth sets, some of the “next episode” previews are excluded. FUNimation owns all of the original Japanese footage and has released it to DVD on their individual volumes, so the inclusion of the television edits here are 100% mistakes. All of these alterations are changes that were made by FUNimation themselves for the Cartoon Network airings. This goes against the claim on the boxart that these sets are “uncut & unedited.” Just to clarify, these are not TMS edits. Every once in a while, though, an edit from the American Cartoon Network television airings will pop up instead of the original Japanese footage. These sets were later re-released under FUNimation’s “Viridian Collection” line, featuring the same discs with different packaging.įor the most part, these “season” sets feature all of the show’s original Japanese footage aside from the episode title cards and ending credits, which are in English. Some of the character/gadget profiles were retained, but were limited to only one or two each per set. Many presentation options were lost as well, including the 5.1 Surround English tracks and (most of) the American dub video edits. Nearly all of the bonus features from the previous single volumes were dropped, including the bloopers and credit-less openings/endings. This increased the number of episodes on Region 1 DVD to 123 (130 by the American dub’s numbering system). The 80 episodes (83 by the American dub’s numbering system) that had already been released via the single volumes were re-released over the first four “season” sets, with new-to-DVD episodes taking up the rest of “season” four and all of “season” five. The episodes here have been grouped into five separate “seasons,” although these do not correspond with TMS’ original Japanese “season” grouping or with FUNimation’s initial “case” releases. Once “cases” 01-05 were completed, FUNimation decided to re-release Case Closed in “season” sets.
